PESHAWAR: The provincial government’s helicopter service for Kurram continues uninterrupted. According to an official spokesperson, the MI-17 helicopter conducted five flights on Saturday, facilitating the transportation of essential supplies and passengers.
In the first flight, 1,500 kilograms of medicines were transported from Peshawar to Sadda, along with three individuals. The second flight carried six individuals from Sadda to Alizai.
The third flight evacuated 43 individuals from Alizai to Thall, along with 200 kilograms of essential goods. In the fourth flight, 22 individuals and 200 kilograms of goods were transported from Thall to Alizai.
The final flight of the day transferred 40 individuals, along with their belongings, from Alizai to Peshawar. In total, 114 individuals were provided air transport services by the provincial government on Saturday.
Additionally, the local administration has initiated a survey in the Balish Khel and Khar Killay areas of Lower Kurram to dismantle bunkers used during months of violence.
According to a letter issued by Kurram District Commissioner Ashfaq Khan, the demolition drive was scheduled to begin on Sunday, with the administration requesting staff and necessary equipment to complete the process.
DC Ashfaq Khan confirmed that the demolition efforts under the peace agreement commenced as planned. He further stated that all bunkers in the area will be dismantled, and the region will be de-weaponized by start of the February.
Earlier, at the end of 2024 more than 300 people were killed in sectarian violence in Kurram while more than 170 including 130 children died due to Medicine and food shortages.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to restore peace and stability in the violence-affected tribal district.
